BMC issues notice to Big B

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) slapped a notice under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MR&TP) Act to superstar Amitabh Bachchan for an unauthorised construction on his premises. The BMC's Building Proposal Department also rejected the amended plans submitted by his architect.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the 'P' South Ward office of the BMC about the MR & TP Act notices issued against Amitabh Bachchan and others. The BMC replied that notices under the MR & TP Act were issued to seven persons including Amitabh Bachchan, Rajkumar Hirani, Oberoi Realty, Pankaj Balaji, Sanjay Vyas, Haresh Khandelwal and Haresh Jagtani on December 7, 2016 for variations observed in contrast to the approved plans.

Before issuing the notices, a site visit was arranged by the ward officials. During the inspection it was observed that Wing nos 2, 3, 5 and 6 of the building were unoccupied and the internal walls as per the approved plans were not in place, lifts were not installed, no internal works like fixing of tiles on the ground and staircase was done, plastering of walls was not done, no security grills on the staircase and balcony walls not constructed.

There was inclusion of elevation projection spaces into flats, covering of open elevation spaces by fixing the windows on elevation slabs and enclosing of the spaces inside the flats. The basement works were also not as per the approved sanctioned plans.

After getting the MR & TP Act notices, Shashank Kokil, architect appointed by Big B, submitted a proposal on January 5, 2017, which was rejected on March 17, 2017 and it was conveyed to the architect on April 11 and he was asked to remove all illegal constructions and violations done in the structure.

The 'P' South Ward Office issued final notice on May 6, asking the respondents to remove the illegal work by themselves and restore as per original sanctioned plans. Even after getting the notice, it was not restored as per sanctioned plan and on September 12, the BMC issued a notice under MR & TP Act to Amitabh Bachchan.
