Ambedkar warns of fresh stir if Bhide not arrested

Mumbai: After the arrest of the Hindu Ekta Aghadi leader, Milind Ekbote, in connection with the Koregaon-Bhima violence, now Bharip Bahujan Aghadi leader Prakash Ambedkar demanded the arrest of Sambhaji Bhide of Shiv Pratishthan. He warned that if the police do not arrest Bhide, the Bharip Bahujan Aghadi and other organisations will hold a protest at Mantralaya.

Ambedkar gave an ultimatum of March 26 for Bhide to be arrested otherwise there will again be a call for Mumbai Bandh on March 26.

A case was registered against Ekbote and Bhide for allegedly inciting the anti-Dalit violence that left a man dead near the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial on January 1. The incident took place during an event to commemorate the bicentenary of the Koregaon-Bhima battle.

The Pune rural police, on Wednesday, arrested Ekbote after the Supreme Court turned down his anticipatory bail plea.
“We are giving an ultimatum to the government to arrest Bhide till March 26, failing which we will take to the streets,” said Ambedkar.

Meanwhile, NCP leaders in legislative council also demanded the arrest of Bhide in connection with Koregaon-Bhima riots. NCP MLA Jaidev Gaikwad, Vidya Chavan and Prakash Gajbhiye demanded a discussion on the issue. They alleged that the government is shielding Bhide.
