54 persons dead, four still missing

PUNE: As per information released by Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar on Friday, the total death toll of flood-related incidents in five districts of Pune region (Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur) has gone up to 54.  

The total death toll includes 26 people from Sangli district, 10 from Kolhapur district, eight from Satara district, nine from Pune district. A death was also reported in Solapur district. As per further information released by the administration, four people are reportedly missing from these five districts.  

According to administration, a total of 7.12 lakh people from Sangli and Kolhapur districts were affected by the floods. As per data released on Friday, 104 villages from 4 talukas in Sangli district were affected. Around 3.05 lakh people from Sangli district have been shifted to 64 temporary shelter camps.

Similarly in Kolhapur district, around 4.07 lakh people from 369 villages in 12 talukas were affected. People were rehabilitated in 181 temporary shelter camps. 

The flood situation in Kolhapur and Sangli districts is improving day by day, administration said. 

On Friday, Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar announced that sanitation work, health services, relief and rehabilitation have been accelerated. The cash amount of Rs 16.88 crore has already been disbursed to 33,775  flood-affected families.

7,000 MILCH ANIMALS FEARED DEAD
 According to administration, as the water level of rivers in Sangli and Kolhapur districts have receded, the panchnamas carried out by administration has revealed that over 7,000 milch animals are either dead or missing.

As per reports, a total of 7,847 milch animals including cows and buffaloes are either dead or missing in Pune division. Out of that, in Sangli district, 4,350 milch animals are either dead or missing, while in Kolhapur the number is 3,420. In Pune district, it is 60 and in Satara 17. 

RESTORING ELECTRICITY
To restore the electricity supply, 48 teams from Pune, Baramati circle of Maharashtra State Electricity Distributional Company Limited (MSEDCL) have been sent to Kolhapur and 12 to Sangli district. In Sangli district, supply to 1.27 lakh customers has been restored while in Kolhapur district, the supply of 1.70 lakh customers has been restored. The administration said that in an attempt to restore the banking services, out of 329 ATMs in Sangli, 229 have been restored, while in Kolhapur out of 647,390 have been restored. 

ROADS OPEN FOR TRAFFIC
Out of 47 roads in Sangli district, 37 roads have been opened for traffic while in Kolhapur district, out of 88 roads, 65 have been opened up. Similarly, the ST buses have resumed on 39 of the 45 closed routes of Sangli. Meanwhile, ST buses have started plying on 26 out of the 31 closed roads in Kolhapur district.
