500 SPPU students leave for relief work in Sangli

Pune: The first batch of 500 students of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) left for Sangli on Thursday morning.

The SPPU has adopted 10 villages in Sangli and Kolhapur, where 1,000 students will be working to help rehabilitate the flood-affected villagers.

The first batch will be visiting five villages in Sangli district: Walwa, Borgaon, Shirgaon, Bhilawadi and Audumbar. The students will be staying there till August 28. After which the next batch will be sent.

These students will be helping the villagers in rehabilitation and provide them counselling to restore strength and faith.

Pune Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar assured full support to the students.

“Several sections of the society have been sending commodities and funds to help the flood-affected people. Now they need counselling and mental support for which the students will work there. They will also gather information about their needs and demands,” said SPPU Vice-Chancellor Nitin Karmalkar.
