Pune: State Education Minister Vinod Tawde recently announced that the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is considering setting two types of question papers for Std XII students of Science stream. While the proposal is currently being analysed by the Board, if approved, it could be implemented from the year 2019.
While the Board wants to introduce a tougher question paper for HSC examination in order to bring the students on par with the level of the competitive exams like JEE and NEET, Tawde's proposal might provide the students with an option to choose for the earlier easier question paper pattern.
Giving an explanation for the same, he said, “The new, tougher question paper pattern will be brought in so that the students get an experience of answering papers like those of JEE and NEET, even in Board examination. However, there are many students who are not interested in the competitive examinations and are perfectly happy with the earlier question paper pattern. So, the two types of question papers will give them a choice.”
The principals of junior colleges have criticised the decision saying that the choice would be unfair to many students.
However, Tawde said that if the education department receives a positive response from the Board, the decision would be finalised, and implemented for the Board examination in March 2019.
