‘Annabhau Sathe’s memorial approved’
Kamble said that the Annabhau Sathe memorial is expected to be completed by August 1, 2020, to coincide with the 100th birth anniversary of the social reformer.
PUNE: Minister of State for Social Justice Dilip Kamble said that a memorial of reformer-author Annabhau Sathe will come up in Chiragnagar area of Ghatkopar in Mumbai. He informed this to media persons during a press meet on Wednesday and said that the idea has got Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s nod.
“About six hectares of land will be acquired in the area and about 700 families residing in the area will be rehabilitated. The contract will be assigned to a government body. We are yet to take a decision whether Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA), MMRDA or Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will get the contract. We will soon decide about the agency and then we will start with the work. The memorial will include the small house where Sathe spent the last period of his life up to 1970,” added Kamble.
He said the memorial is expected to be completed by August 1, 2020, to coincide with the 100th birth anniversary of the social reformer. Kamble was in the city to announce the distribution of Annabhau Sathe awards. Of the 50 winners of the award in last two years, 14 are from Pune.
