Pune: Pradeep Bhargava, Director of Persistent Systems is the new president of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). The announcement was made at the 84th MCCIA Annual General Meeting (AGM)on Tuesday.  He succeeded Pramod Chaudhari, Executive Chairman, Praj Industries Ltd, who handed over the President’s flag to Pradeep Bhargava.

Rashesh Shah, Chairman and CEO, Edelweiss Group was present as chief guest. During the AGM Dr Anant Sardeshmukh, Director General and other officials were present.

Chaudhari said his two-year tenure as President of MCCIA passed by quickly. “I worked towards training and development of the secretariat, upgrading operational practices, improving the connect with Auto Cluster, NAFARI and initiated the Forum of Associations by bringing together small associations,” he said.

His main aim has been to support MSMEs through initiatives like GST War Room. He started the sustainability desk to help MSMEs and the Skill Development Centre at Bhosari. His work towards Electronic Cluster is nearing take-off.

MCCIA’s 5th office at Hadapsar Industrial Estate was inaugurated by chief guest Rashesh Shah, Chairman and CEO, Edelweiss Group. Bhargava, in his acceptance speech as President, 2018-20 thanked the Council of Past Presidents and praised Chaudhari for restructuring work culture at the Chamber. 

He said there are going to be new challenges ahead as the general elections are slated for 2019.

“This will bring in a different dynamics in government policies and programmes. Industry and the industry associations need to cope with these. The Chamber will continue to pursue advocacy for issues which have direct impact on industry and also work towards improving competitiveness in the industry. Industry needs to introspect and be sensitive to its obligations as a socially responsible business. Industry has often ignored its duties and tasks towards society and environment in its single minded pursuit of profit and growth,” he added.

Rashesh Shah said it is important for businesses to embrace new values and follow transparent business practices. He added that it is important build a two-way channel between the government and the industry.
