Here’s some much-needed life advice from all-time-favourite movies
Isn’t it amazing how sometimes movie dialogues resonate with our current life situations? It almost feels like a sign; a nudge from the universe towards a particular direction. Your life might not entail the classic love triangle or hopefully you wouldn’t be dealing with deadly killers on loose, but you still get to learn a lot from the characters on screen. Here’s some life advice from characters from some of your favourite movies over the years.
“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it” – Rafiki, The Lion King
Masked as something for children, animation always has gems of wisdom hidden among all the fun and frolic. One such example is the classic Lion King, Trust the wise Rafiki to give us perspective when times are hard.
“Sophia always comes back to life” – Richie, Curfew
No matter how hard you fall, no matter how hard life hits you; you will always come back to life just like Sophia. Watch the story of Richie and his niece, Sophia from his estranged sister in the Academy Award winning Best Live Action Short Film, Curfew on July 12, at 9 pm on Star Movies Select HD. As a part of the Short Stories festival, the channel will be airing Curfew.
“Do, or do not. There is no ‘try’” – Yoda, Star Wars
Isn’t it annoying when people tell you they’ll try. You know what most of the time it is a polite way of turning you down. The next time someone tells you that they’ll “try”, this is a line you can use. There is no go-between, there is no middle path, there is no space for excuses. You are either doing it or not doing it.

Why wait for retirement to do what you really want to do? What if you don’t have that much time? Life is short, and more importantly, it’s unpredictable. Start now, do things that bring joy to your life, do things that bring joy to others as well.

You can blame it on your parents, society, your partner, or whoever you want, but at the end of it, the person you become is the person you choose to become. Take responsibility for your actions and your words. You always have a choice, even though there may be times when you realise that you haven’t made the right ones.

Many of us live our life with the diktats of society, following the norms and rules. But there comes a time when you have to break away from the shackles of society and do what you really want to and not just what is expected of you.
