Walking with pride

Walking with pride

Last Sunday (December 30, 2018), the streets of Kolkata were painted with colours of the rainbow as members of the queer community came in large numbers to celebrate and rejoice. The Kolkata Rainbow Pride Walk, a joint initiative of different queer and trans organisations and individuals of the city and West Bengal,  was organised to celebrate the reading down of Section 377 by the Supreme Court of India, which gave rights to individuals to ‘self-determine’ one’s choice of companionship, sexuality, and gender in the country. The walk also aimed at seeking support on the consensus to revise the The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill 2018, which goes against the better interest of the transgender and gender variant communities of the country.
