Enjoy the epic battle for independence this Independence Day with the first Indian television premiere of the movie at 1 pm and 9 pm on Star Movies.

Freedom is a word often associated by us Indians, with the Indian freedom movement. The 200-year-old struggle, though it happened in the distant past, is still close to our hearts. However, the modern day freedom struggle has taken different shapes and forms. We’re still fighting battles in everyday lives for freedom from the shackles of our negative mindset, freedom to go out and work, societal stereotypes; there are so many things we constantly strive to free ourselves from. And as cinema reflects life, a few films have captured our personal freedom struggles too. Here are a few of them...

Andy Dufresne is accused of a double murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in jail. Prison is an ugly reality for him, with a corrupt warden and inhuman inmates, where he is often beaten up and even raped. In face of such adversities, it is easy to lose hope but Andy believes in his innocence and continues to work towards proving himself so. In the end, after years of endeavour, he makes his way out and proves himself innocent. In the words of Andy Dufresne, “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. No good thing ever dies.” A positively uplifting and deeply satisfying prison drama is one of the best movies in the past decades.

Braveheart tells the historic story of William Wallace, the legendary Scotts warrior who led his nation into the battle against England in the 1300s. Wallace’s fight and cries for freedom made Braveheart an iconic movie. Here was a fighter who was ready to give up his life but not his freedom. An action packed, epic battle drama between Scotland and England, it is big on emotions of love, patriotism and treachery.

We have always had a fascination for aliens. Do they exist? Will they come to destroy us or want to understand us? Independence Day portrayed the scenario if the former situation played out. What do we do when aliens with far superior technology come to destroy and invade the earth? The answer is, we fight back with everything we have in us. Independence Day is an inspiring story about the human will to survive and not let go of our freedom.

This enthralling trilogy had grabbed our attention from the very first installment. A growing nation of genetically evolved apes is slowly taking over while the human population is declining because of a deadly virus. After suffering unimaginable losses, Caesar, the leader of the apes, goes on a quest to avenge his kind. The stunning special effects along with the powerful storytelling makes War for the Planet of the Apes a must watch.
