We indulge in ice creams, kulfis or golas, but let’s get a little more adventurous. Megha Bhavesh Chhatbar visits some of these offbeat dessert places in town which are breaking the barriers of fusion

Have you heard of a dessert studio? There’s one right here in Kalyani Nagar — Piatto Dessert Studio. Headed by chef Smaran, it offers gourmet high-end fresh gelatos, French desserts with varied flavours. Vegan dairy-free sorbets are also on the shelf. Do not forget to try the Raspberry Chocolate which has a liquid centre filled with raspberry surrounded by chocolate mousse and chocolate cookie at the base. The Salted Caramel Cheesecake, The Opera, and Nutty Chocolate are bestsellers too! What we found unique were the 10 interesting variants in macarons which had eccentric flavours like Lime Basil, Orange, Snickers, Coffee, 10% Chocolate and Mint, Paan Salted Caramel, Earl Grey, and Raspberry. Pricing is around Rs 500 for two people. This place is a heaven for dessert lovers!
Kalyani Nagar, 12 noon-11 pm

Maa ka pyaar in a cup! This is how I would like to describe this place. Starting their journey from a small cart in Aundh on weekends to a full-time shop on JM Road, the family-run business, La Kheer, has really come a long way! The gourmet kheer or the rice pudding is made by the mom herself. Sonia Sood, Shivika Sood, Jatin Jain, Pradyuman Soni and Shivang Sood are behind this brand.

Currently, they have five contemporary flavours of kheer to offer — Gulkand, Dryfruit, Brownie, Nutteloreo, and Mocha, along with the freshly baked brownies. What a lovely twist to the classic regular homemade kheer. Each cup ranges from Rs 100-150. What’s more, to make Pune green, LKD gives you a small packet with the seeds of happiness which you can grow in the cup itself. The cup too is cute with faces on the base which can be used for selfies. What an idea!
ITI Road, opp Starbucks, Aundh, weekends, 8-11.30 pm
JM Road, next to Naturals ice cream, daily, 12 noon-midnight

Known for their sensational Ice Cream Misal, Dezart is the place offering fancy named desserts like Jaffles (a sandwiched waffle) or Badam Jalebi or Tiramisu dessert on the table. What grabbed our attention was the Ice Cream Misal which is a melange of ice cream scoops, granola, fresh fruits, dry fruits garnished with colourful and flavourful fruit pebbles and sprinkles. This is one dessert which has crunchy, chewy, fruity textures and every bite is a burst of flavours. Jaffles are the unique twist to waffles! The toasted waffles made with jaffle iron is sealed so that the aroma stays inside and the flavours reach the next level. The price ranges between Rs 100 and 250.
Opp Kamla Nehru Park, Deccan, 11 am-11.30 pm

Get off with those vanilla or chocolate ice cream cups, and get nostalgic about childhood memories at this place in Aundh. The 10-month-old Icecreamo offers handcrafted gourmet popsicles which are made with 100 per cent fresh seasonal fruits. They also have ice lollies and creamy popsicles with delicious choco dipping and options of popping. Interesting! The Mumbai-based brand makes sure the taste goes in hand with the price. Serving around 18 varieties of frozen delights, the price ranges from Rs 100-120. We loved the Melodrama, which is a perfect melange of plum, kiwi, and orange. Do also try the chocolate-based Oreo or Brownie popsicle.
— Opp Westend Mall, Aundh, 11 am-11 pm

Another trending, scrumptious and unconventional dessert we found was at a French food truck — Nina Pinta Santamaria. This food truck sells some awesome crepes. We liked their heavenly Death by Chocolate crepe as it had the filling of crumbled chocolate brownie soaked in chocolate ganache, topped with choco mocha mousse, whipped cream and button chocolate! Those who like berries can also opt for Berry-Ya, which has strawberry or blueberry compote with an edge of ricotta cheese and whipped cream. Quintessential Mango crepes are also available.
— Aundh-Baner Link Road, Wednesday to Sunday, 6.30-11 pm

Delicious dairy-free desserts are difficult to find. But The Real Green Cafe has it all sorted. Indulge in their guilt-free soy/ almond milk-based desserts and go home happy. One can choose from Butterscotch, Roasted Almond Coffee, Oreo Peanut Butter, and Chocolate! Butterscotch is the bestseller, however, we loved Roasted Almond Coffee as well!
— Koregaon Park, 11 am-9.30 pm

The ‘black’ ice cream famed Icekraft is surprising its customers with another amazing addition — Ice cream Taco. Choose the base for a taco from Plain, Chocolate or Red Velvet and ensemble it with the rolled ice cream and some toppings. A recent addition is the Paan Thandai Taco Platter. Paan taco shells are loaded with kesar thandai ice cream rolls, whipped cream topped with flaked pistachios. Finely ground paan leaves are added to complement the ice cream. Paan chutney is added for the cold minty flavour that lingers in the mouth. You can relish the unique desserts at a price range of Rs 100-200.
— FC Road, Viman Nagar and Bibvewadi, 1-11.30 pm

If you are a crazy fan of coconut, head to Koko Scoop. Trust us, their Jelly Scoop is heavenly. A coconut bowl full of hand-cranked ice cream loaded with coconut jelly, and liberally topped with fruit bubbles of your choice (choose from mango, green apple, blueberry, strawberry and more) — this is one treat that’s fun, yummy and healthy! Also, if you like crunchy bites, go for the Krunchy Scoop which has peanuts, crunchy chips and choco chips. The price ranges from Rs 70-110.
