SRK, Madhuri, Anil invited to be the Oscar Academy’s Class of 2018

Last year, the Academy sent out 774 invites, with each passing year the list is becoming longer and in 2018 it has reached its highest record number till date. 

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has just made its record breaking number of invites to new members on Monday night. The Academy has got a list of around 928 new members and the list features some of the biggest Bollywood personalities. 

The list of names were shared on their official website on Monday night. A note read that the Academy is extending invitation to executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. 

Shah Rukh Khan, Soumitra Chatterjee, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu, Madhuri Dixit, Ali Fazal and Anil Kapoor, producers Aditya Chopra and Guneet Monga, as well as music artists Usha Khanna and Sneha Khanwalkar are among the Indians invited to be a part of the Oscar Academy’s Class of 2018. 

Dangal editor Ballu Saluja, costume designers Manish Malhotra and Dolly Ahluwalia, cinematographer Anil Mehta, actress Madhabi Mukherjee, production designers Subrata Chakraborthy and Amit Ray are also a part of the list.

The Academy since 2014 has been on a directive to include more members from different countries and colour to diversify its membership. 

Speaking about it, Ali said, “It’s an absolute honour for me to have been accepted into the academy #iamacademy now. To one more step towards global cinema, towards one world. I am so happy the academy has diversified extensively over the past few years. And to include me in that prestigious list is in itself an honour for me and my country. I hope, I serve well in the forthcoming years of entertainment  There are some heavy names out there on the list so am happy to share stage with them on this.”
