RUNWAY STORIES: Make way for the groom
All set to make a glamorous debut on the ramp tomorrow, Sakal Times Couture Weekend will be a three-day fashion extravaganza at Amanora The Fern Hotels and Clubs, Hadapsar. We’re bringing the country’s top notch designers and fashion enthusiasts under one roof to experiment with latest trends, looks, and styles
Ahead of Sakal Times Couture Weekend, we catch up with Ayush Subhash Jain, director, Men’s Avenue. Their collection Naksh will be showcased at the fashion extravaganza
Men are putting their best fashion foot forward. At parties or weddings, men today are turning heads with their fashion sensibilities. Ayush Subhash Jain, director, Men’s Avenue, a retail brand that specialises in menswear, says that today’s men are much more fashion conscious. Men’s Avenue will be showcasing their collection Naksh at the upcoming Sakal Times Couture Weekend.
Talking about the collection, Jain says, “We will be showcasing our ethnicwear, which includes blazers, partywear suits, kurtas, sherwanis, Jodhpuris and a blend of Indo-Western styles. We will also display accessories like malas, haars, mojaris etc. The collection called Naksh is an amalgamation of a few new designs specially curated for the fashion show and some of our signature outfits and styles. This special collection will be the highlight of the show.”
Jain says that they are mainly concentrating on a colour scheme and all their outfits, except for the blazers, will be in the same shade of peach. “We are trying to keep everything uniform and refreshing because peach, a pastel colour, is very soothing to the eyes. Pastel colours are in and the shade compliments both brides and grooms. From basic kurtas to sherwanis with basic work to heavy embroideries and embellishments, we are going to showcase a lot of variety. As the show goes on, we will keep adding more surprises to the collection on the ramp,” adds Jain.
New-age grooms are choosing soft colours like pinks, peaches, corals etc and are willing to experiment with their wedding wear. “Grooms are moving away from the regular off-white, navy blue and maroon sherwanis, and opting for new colours instead. About five years ago, nobody would have thought that men would wear choli kurtas or anarkali kurtas, but having taken inspiration from Ranveer Singh (in Bajirao Mastani) men are proudly flaunting these kurtas and sherwanis at their weddings and other events. Men also prefer colourful embroideries these days. A few years ago, everyone would be excited about what the bride would wear, but today, grooms are also making an effort to shine at their wedding and reception. Earlier, the bride would be the showstopper but now even grooms have begun to grab eyeballs. They want to look special too,” he shares.
Men’s fashion is changing mostly because of Bollywood and grooms are following what our leading actors are wearing on screen and sporting at events. “It is because of Bollywood, people are getting aware of what is in and what’s not and how men can amp up their look at different occasions by wearing what is popular among celebs. Films impact fashion in a big way. We are trying to keep up with all the trends and what the celebs are wearing. We have to evolve with time,” he informs.
Although he didn’t reveal the showstopper for SCW, he says, “Whoever wears our brand should walk with confidence and be comfortable. Only when you are comfortable, you look confident and that’s the quality we look for in the models and showstopper. He has to look confident through the body language, posture, and expression when walking the ramp and that will help the brand to connect with the audience.”
