Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur reunite for ‘Pihu’

The film is about a two-year-old girl Pihu who is left alone in an apartment because of certain circumstances. Sources say that the film makes for an edge-of-the-seat social thriller, based on a true story. “The fact that it’s the only film in the history of our cinema to have just one character throughout, played by a two-year-old child, makes this movie absolutely incredible,” add sources.

Producers Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films have joined hands for a unique film titled Pihu, directed by National Award-winner Vinod Kapri. Known to have backed unconventional content like Dev D, A Wednesday, Rang De Basanti and Barfii in their first innings together at UTV, Ronnie and Siddharth seem to have picked up from where they left off.

Pihu was officially selected for prestigious international film festivals which include Vancouver, Palmsprings, Iran, Morocco, Germany. The film went on to win ‘best film’ at Morocco. It was also the opening film at International Film Festival of India, Goa (2017) where it received rave reviews.

“It’s always thrilling to come across directors who want to tell stories that disrupt the status quo using bold new narrative styles. Pihu is a towering directorial achievement by Vinod and we look forward to bringing it to audiences very soon,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur in a statement.

Ronnie Screwvala added, “Pihu is a unique film. Thrillingly real. Imagine 90 minutes of a spellbinding experience, can easily be a true story and yet it tugs at your heart at all times.”

Vinod Kapri, in a statement said, “I am still pinching myself that I could complete Pihu. It was almost an impossible film. In the beginning, my dear friend late Krishan Kumar trusted my dream and Pihu was born. Later, Sid and Ronnie adopted the film, it’s no lesser than a fairy tale for me.” Pihu is set to release on August 3. ST
