Razzle, dazzle

Razzle, dazzle

Apart from gorging on lip-smacking dishes, Eid-ul-Fitr is also about carrying off glamorous outfits, sporting stylish trends and beautiful accessories that make heads turn. Whether you are throwing a Eid party at home or attending one, you should be putting your most fashionable foot forward.

Men can certainly go for the traditional look by donning a Pathani kurta, and women can flaunt shararas and sarees.

There is a third option too, you can  add a twist to your ethnic wear and create a fusion look.

Nishit Gupta, director, Kalki Fashion, says that women have plenty of options to choose from like gorgeous shararas, Anarkalis, stunning Indo-Western styles, and more Indian wear options. He says, “Men can opt for waistcoats, classy kurtas and salwars. The traditional bandhgalas will keep your fashion game on point.”

Gupta says that a nice black Anarkali suit will always be a safe bet for a glitzy evening party. “Women can go for a printed kurta and a heavy gold-toned embroidered gharara if you want to add a little of drama to you look. A pretty sharara and kurta will help create a high fashion polished look. You can even experiment with fabrics and choose a Lucknowi Chikankari Anarkali that is ideal summer wear. If you are striving to create a royal look, pick a hand-embroidered ensemble with lots of ghera (flare) in the bottoms. To complete your look, you can add a pair of dainty earrings,” suggests Gupta.

Monish Chandan, fashion and lifestyle writer and influencer (www.instagram.com/rulerofmind), says that for men it’s pretty simple to choose what they want to wear. “A long kameez or kurta that reaches your knees is an ideal outfit to choose. If you are confused what colour to wear, stick to wearing lighter shades for Namaz and darker colour for parties,” he adds.

Chandan adds that if you want to add more funk and style, sport a waistcoat over a kurta and pyjama.

“While buying a waistcoat, check the base colour of the kameez/ kurta and then match it accordingly. White is my all-time favourite colour and it looks simple yet classy. However, a grey coloured Pathani suit looks fabulous and is in vogue. The waistcoat adds a touch of elegance,” he suggests.

Gupta believes that men can actually experiment with fashion this Eid and go for a quirky, well-structured floral jacket that can be paired with a beige coloured pant. He says, “Since it’s summer, you can also opt for a pastel kurta and team it with a Nehru jacket. A printed pocket square will just add the right amount of colour to your look. For an evening garden party, you can deck up in a royal velvet sherwani with matching juttis for that super elegant and regal touch.  For an understated and classy look, pick a textured bandhgala,” he suggests.

Agreeing with Gupta, Chandan says that the hottest trend this Eid is pastel shades for men. “Light yellows, peaches, light greens are refreshing and easy to style. One can even go for amazing styles and embroideries on pastel shades,” he adds.

While women do have an array of options, they need to focus on what fabrics they want to wear. “Thick and heavy fabrics such as Banarasi silk etc would be a great pick for a festive ensemble. If you want summer appropriate clothing, go for lightweight fabrics like Tussar silk in sarees and suits. Embroidered kurtas and longline jackets as silhouettes and georgette fabric will also be a great choice. If you are styling a simple saree with a heavy embroidered blouse, then you can always trust chiffon,” he advises.
