Priyanka faces heat for supporting Indian Air Force

Priyanka Chopra found herself in the midst of a controversy while attending the Beautycon Los Angeles. The actress, who was speaking to the audience, was asked by a Pakistani woman Ayesha Malik about her tweet last March.

Malik questioned her on supporting Indian Air Force after the February 2019 strike against a terrorist camp in Balakot, Pakistan. She called Priyanka’s stand hypocritical. “As a Goodwill Ambassador, you are encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan. People like me have supported you in your business,” Malik said.

Priyanka kept her calm and said, “War is not something I’m really fond of but I am patriotic, so I’m sorry if I hurt sentiments of people who do love me and have loved me. But I think that all of us have a, sort of, middle ground that we all have to walk. Just like you probably do as well. The way that you came at me right now... girl, don’t yell. We’re all here for love.”

Malik further tweeted about the event and wrote, “Hi, I’m the girl that yelled at Priyanka Chopra. It was hard listening to her say, ‘we should be neighbours and love each other’. Swing that advice over to your PM. Both India and Pakistan were in danger. And instead she tweeted out in favour for nuclear war.”

“It took me back to when I couldn’t reach my family because of the blackouts and how scared/helpless I was. She gaslit me and turned the narrative around on me being the bad guy. As a UN ambassador, this was so irresponsible,” she further wrote.

She even shared the video on her Twitter handle and captioned it, “Priyanka Chopra tweeted during a time when we were this close to sending nukes to one another. Instead of advocating for peace, she tweeted in support of the Indian Army. Whenever you’re done venting. Sorry, didn’t realise that speaking on a humanitarian crisis was venting.”

As soon as the video started trending on social media, netizens from both the countries were expectedly divided. While many Pakistani users backlashed the actor, many of her Indian fans came out in support of her.

People started talking about cancelling #PriyankaChopra. “She’s a human, with feelings and emotions. You cannot cancel another human...now shut up and mind your own business,” a user said. Another wrote, “Priyanka made a Paki girl shut up when she came yelling at her for supporting India. Girl if you can support a terrorist factory, our Miss World has all the right to support her country. India has been tolerant to Pakistani for long now. Don’t embarrass yourself #PriyankaChopra.”

“This will be a thread against #PriyankaChopra and how she is the perfect example of people in power gaslighting people they’re indebted to for their fame & status, proving time and time again they’re nothing but entitled halfwits,” a user wrote against her.

“Seriously #PriyankaChopra is that the best you can come up with? Does patriotism mean that if Indian PM provokes a war sentiment, you will encourage it by saying Jai Hind? So what’s happening in #Kashmir is fine with you coz you are patriotic?#WeStandWithKashmir #Humanityfirst,” another asked.

It’s over to Priyanka now to reply as she couldn’t have been in a trickier situation than this.
