Kiran Singh, who will be judging the beauty pageant Miss and Mrs Skyrra in the city today, talks about empowering women and pushing them to excel in various ways

Kiran Singh believes that it is her duty as a woman to work towards empowering women. She founded Skyrra, a brand that works towards it through creative art, fashion, modelling and events. This evening, Skyrra, in association with Florentino, a knowledge events and media company, will be hosting a one-of-a-kind beauty pageant titled Miss and Mrs Skyrra 2017. She tells us why the event is close to her heart.

“I hail from a tier two city, so I know that the opportunities you get there for modelling, fashion and participating in pageants are less. Which is why I made it a point to go to tier two cities like Jabalpur, Indore and Amravati among others, to scout talent for this event,” says Kiran, who hails from Raipur.

She shares that the response she received from the cities when she travelled with the team, was phenomenal. “So many enthusiastic participants turned up for the auditions. They were housewives, working women — a pleasant mix of women from different walks of life. They were talented and very excited to be there. It was amazing,” says Singh.

But only the best were chosen to be a part of the finale organised this evening at Amanora The Fern, Hotels and Club, Hadapsar. A total of 20 participants will be battling it out for the title of ‘Miss’ and ‘Mrs’ Skyrra 2017.
Apart from being on the talent-scouting team, she is also a member of the judges panel. When asked what she is going to look for, while picking a winner, she says, “I will look for how they have taken on a challenge and faced it. I want women to challenge themselves to do something they haven’t done before and to excel in every way they can. They should not be boxed up or withhold themselves back because they are afraid. They must take every opportunity available to them and seize the day.”

Talking about her next event, she shares, “We will be hosting a Skyrra Fashion Week in August this year. We want fresh talent, young designers to showcase their work, and we will also be selecting 50 models to walk the ramp for these designers.”
