While he is shooting for the 10th season of Indian Idol, Maniesh Paul will also be working on his next movie Banjar.
What makes the film interesting is that the host-actor will be seen in a completely new avatar there. He will be donning a serious Punjabi look with a turban, kada et al, for the first time. Says Maniesh, “This look is completely different from what I have played till now. I had to work on it. I have grown my beard because the feel that a real beard gives doesn’t come from an artificial one. I didn’t cut my beard for three months and I went slow on my workout a bit too.”
He says that he had to work on his Punjabi dialect because the language he speaks in Banjar is rural Punjabi.
The look is quite contrary to Maniesh’s image on television and films. So is he nervous about how his fans will react? “I don’t think I am nervous about things because I like to try out new things. But yes, there is a sense of excitement and anxiety at the same time. I hope people like what I do because usually they shower a lot of love on me. I like to create something that the entire famiy can watch together, something that leaves a message, like this one,” says Maniesh.
The actor, who was last seen in Baa Baaa Black Sheep, says that as an actor, he likes to play different roles because as a host, he is just being himself. “As an actor, I love it when I am challenged and get to do meaningful roles. This one is quite a serious role and I am not joking around as I usually do,” says the actor who recently delivered a Punjabi single hit Munde Town De.
