Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the sequel to Harry Potter series’ prequel, is creating a stir worldwide among Potterheads. We caught  up with young fans to know their reactions

Harry Potter fans, globally, are going crazy over some shocking revelations made at the end of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. It has generated a lot of curiosity among fans who are wondering if Grindelwald’s claim about Credence’s real identity is true.

Released worldwide on November 16, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second part of JK Rowling’s five-part Harry Potter prequel, was a long-awaited release for the ‘Wizarding World’ fans. Those who ‘believe in magic’ wasted no time in rushing to their nearest theatre to watch what happens in the latest installment of the film — what havoc Grindelwald creates, what magical creatures Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) tames and how Jude Law will fare as young Dumbledore.

While the film tells you a lot about the Lestrange family and who Nagini really is, fans are really excited about seeing Johnny Depp reprising the villainous dark wizard Grindelwald. Critics have given their verdict about the film but can a Harry Potter film review be complete without finding what Potterheads feel about it? We caught up with some young fans after they watched the film.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald lacks the pace of the first part, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Even the script is a little loose. Also, they’ve desperately tried to relate it to the Harry Potter storyline.  I found the film okayish till the interval, but enjoyed the second half. Both Johny Depp and Jude Law have done amazing work and Niffler was cute as usual.

“Of course I waited for two whole years to watch the movie and what keeps me hooked to the series is the fact that there is no book. There are certain events and characters which were quite shocking. I have been a Harry Potter fan for a very long time and I have read and re-read the entire series just to come across a few clues on the origins of the Dark Lord and why he behaves in a certain way. Now, coming to the movie, I was a bit disappointed on how Johnny Depp portrayed Grindelwald, because the things I read earlier just don’t add up to the way he is in the movie. His presence in the movie should have been more dark and ruthless. That said, there are a lot of interesting things that have popped up in this movie which now makes me wonder what will happen in the next part. We need a release date of the next movie ASAP!”

Without a doubt, this was the best film of the year, at least for me. The highlight of the film was showing the Hogwarts castle and a younger version of Dumbledore and quite a handsome one, teaching his students Defence Against The Dark Arts. It makes you take a walk down  memory lane. What more a Harry Potter fan can ask for! The entire cinematic experience was outstanding. The visual effects are  superb and I loved every bit of the film — acting, storyline, costumes, action, just everything. I hope JK Rowling comes up with the next part soon.

My Potterhead friends and I had been waiting for the film to hit theatres for the last two years. I think it was worth the wait. The plots are interesting with twists and turns every now and then. Both Credence’s survival and his real identity blew us away. Eddie was so adorable as Newt and I must say he is a fabulous actor. Although Johny Depp failed to live up to our expectations as Grindelwald, he was menacing in a few frames. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next part and how things will unfold when Credence goes on to seek answers to some questions from his ‘brother.’  I’m really looking forward to watching the next part soon because it is only going to turn murkier and intriguing after this.

“The best thing that happened this year was the release of the sequel to the prequel to the Harry Potter series. The Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald is a movie that is going to stay with me for a very long time, mainly because of the character relationships that were revealed. When it comes to the Harry Potter universe, I have had random thoughts about how the main characters like Harry and Dumbledore are actually related to each other. And of course the most shocking part of the movie is the fact that there is an addition to the Dumbledore family, someone who you could have never thought could be related to him. So the ones who have not seen the movie yet need to watch it soon. There are whole lot of theories which come up and can be discussed until the next movie is released.”  — Darshi Shah, technical writer
