With the Season 7 of Game of Thrones premiering in India today, there is a lot of excitement among youngsters.
Just when we could not handle the heat and the humidity in India, winter is finally here with Season 7 of the Game of Thrones series.
Game of Thrones Season 7 marks the most anticipated return of fire-breathing dragons, battles, fantasy politics and complicated family dynamics alive to our screens after almost a year of waiting. The quest for the Iron Throne is filled with violence and a new twist, rather a death, in every season. The show premiered on Sunday in the United States which means fans in other countries and continents will have to wait just a bit longer to watch it.
Based on the fantasy novels written by R R Martin, Game of Thrones, commonly called GoT, has managed to get fans irrespective of their age, nationality, etc together, to discuss their fandom and come up with the most epic fan-based theories.
Game of Thrones is probably the only current show which is promoted and marketed heavily worldwide. Honestly, GoT does not even need this type of marketing but who does not like a bit of fan involvement? The latest being the White Walkers led by the Night King casually walking around Central London.
Fans in India have all gone gaga ever since the news broke out about the release of Season 7. With several fans taking part and supporting their houses based on their equation on the earlier seasons, they just cannot wait to watch the show which will be available in India today (July 18). While many would prefer watching it at the comfort of their homes, several other fans are gearing up to watch the entire season on big screens at cafes with other fellow fans. Nukkad Café in Viman Nagar, Paradise Restaurant and Family Lawns in Balewadi and Morrison Mastana in Kalyani Nagar are all hosting a special screening of the first episode of the season.
GoT has managed to leave a mark on every fan’s heart. The series casts a spell leaving most of the people binge watching all the previous seasons. While students indulge in endless discussions in hostel rooms, office colleagues engage in arguments over the series. Most of the friend circles even got divided because of the houses people chose to support.
Game of Thrones came to Mayur Agarwal’s rescue when he was on complete bed rest. The twists and turns in the politics and the epic obsession of the Iron Throne was something that compelled him to watch all the seasons on loop.
Aniket Powar, an engineering student, cannot hide his excitement. What started off as a mere pressure from his peers has led to an addiction for him. He adds, “If this is the last season, I’ll probably watch the whole series again! I really hope the show does not end here.”
“While watching the ninth episode of Season 6, which was Battle of Bastards, I was nearly hit by my girlfriend because I was supporting Jon Snow and not Ramsay Bolton,” Shrihari Rathi, a hotelier, recalls.
Game of Thrones has been a series packed with powerful characters and one simply cannot hide their favourites. Arya Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark, Jon Snow, Jamie Lannister to name a few. Because of the strong portrayal of characters, people started relating with them.
“I love Danny (Daenerys)!,” Ujjwala Shinde exclaims, “Because she is such a badass and has emerged as a very strong character.” Ujjwala, an architect by profession, has been taking out time from her busy schedule to catch up on all the past seasons for the last few weeks. Juhie Bhardwaj, a media student explains how GoT has become an escape from her humdrum life and how it is a treat visually as well as mentally. She believes she has learnt a lot from Daenery’s strong character. “Once the series is over I will refrain from watching any new show for some time to let the impact be and if I cannot move on, I can always sit and watch all the seasons all over again,” Juhie says.
Though a few mysteries still remain unsolved, fans are expected to get a lot of answers in the seventh season. Winter has finally arrived in Westeros which will lead to an epic battle for the Iron Throne.
Who will finally conquer that Iron Throne that started it all? We don’t know as yet, but what we know is that this season is going to be epic and now’s the time to jump on the Games of Thrones bandwagon.
