Leaving on a jet plane
With the summer setting in, fashionistas Tanisha Aggarwal and Angela Ginis share a few tips on how to stay stylish during that much-awaited holiday
The summer is here and so are vacations. No matter where you intend to travel for your holiday, there are a few things you should keep in mind, right from the weather of the places you are likely to visit. A couple of fashionistas tell you what to pack in your suitcase before you get on the flight/train.
Tanisha Aggarwal says that while packing for a vacation it is important to keep in mind that one does not over pack and instead makes smart choices. “Make a list and carry the clothes which you are sure you will wear and need,” she says, adding, “It’s as simple as not carrying a swimming costume if you are going to the snow-clad mountains.”
Angela Ginis says that it is important to take into consideration the terrain before you pack. “You do not want to wobble while walking on sand or wear satin or silk while you travel to hot and humid places,” she says adding “since you are going on a vacation to relax, it is important for your skin to relax as well. It is important to wear comfortable clothes and let the skin breathe.”
“Wear loose cotton kaftans or tunics,” she advises women. She adds that high-waisted palazzos or skirts with slits do not look good on a vacation but are breezy. If one is travelling to a tropical place, it is best to carry a solid colour crop top which can be worn for an excursion in the morning or for a dinner party at night.
“Denims are forever in vogue,” says Aggarwal; be it a simple denim shift dress or a ripped jeans paired with a white shirt and the right accessories, they instantly bring out the vacation feel. She adds that one thing that never goes out of style is the floral midi or maxi dress which lets you be comfortable. Since ruffles are in, you can wear a ruffle sleeves dress or even a shirt paired with a tie-up trouser along with a hat and sunglasses.
“While traveling it is important to keep in mind that no matter where you are going, the weather may change, so it is always a good idea to carry a jacket just in case,” says Aggarwal. “It is best not to pack a bulky jacket, just a light one that can do the job.” She adds that on a vacation it is best to dress down and look stylish with minimal efforts.
As for men, “A pair of khaki shorts and a buttoned down coloured linen shirt is not only light to wear but also stylish,” says Ginis. Aggarwal adds that slogan tees are another option that can be paired with denims.
Ginis says that no matter where you go, be it a tropical place, the beach or even the snow-clad mountains, a little pop of colour is never a bad idea. “Tinted coloured sunglasses will make you stand out from the crowd.”
She says another thing to keep in mind is to always carry a bag — be it a sling bag or a small backpack. “This keeps all your essential things together — deo, sunscreen and all your other necessities.
“Strappy sandals, belly shoes or even canvas shoes should find a place in your bags because these are the shoes you will need,” says Ginis adding that they are comfortable and stylish.
As for the accessories, “Afghan jewellery brings out the best of the bohemian style,” says Aggarwal. Pair necklaces or earrings with solid coloured tops or wear anklets so that the feet stand out. Men can wear sport shoes or even loafers. “But remember to carry slip-ons or even slippers if you just want to stroll on the streets or feel like going shopping,” she adds.
