The epicentre is in Russia but the tremors can be felt in Pune. We are talking about how FIFA is shaking and stirring up football fans all over and how they are taking part in all the revelry and fun not just in the host country but in our city too

If you are immersed in the World Cup frenzy, you can enjoy the whole madness and cheer for your favourite team with other football lovers right here in your city. You can find football aficionados flocking to restaurants, cafés and bars, which are screening live matches on huge screens, and join in the revelry. What’s more, you also get to enjoy discounts on drinks and relish some special menu too as part of FIFA celebrations.

Edward Menezes, restaurant manager, Baraza Bars & Bites, says that although they do not have a special menu, or decor except for a large screen, they’ve ensured that football lovers get the best deals at the restaurant. “Live screening of matches has given a boost to the fan culture of FIFA World Cup in Pune. Providing fans with a unique and exciting opportunity to experience all the action and atmosphere of one of the world’s greatest sports is an exciting job! As restaurateurs, it gives us a great platform to connect with sports fanatics and enthusiasts and make sure they have a good time at our venue along with great deals on alcohol and food. This helps us earn goodwill and loyalty of the guests,” says Menezes. 

Some of the deals that football lovers can get at Baraza Bars & Bites are King Fisher Premium Beer Bucket (a bucket of 5) for Rs 555 (taxes applicable), and Kingfisher 3 litre Draught Beer Tower and one vegetarian/ non-vegetarian appetiser at Rs 999 (taxes applicable). 

Their special cocktail menu has been inspired from football terminologies and are a perfect treat for football fans. “The special cocktail menu comprises Red Card  (raspberry puree, vodka, amaretto, and lime), Yellow Card (vodka, fresh orange, lime, mint, and brown sugar), Kickoff (vodka, vanilla, coffee liqueur, espresso, and cream), Offside (house infused  lemon Vodka, gin, cilantro, ginger, and fresh citrus mix), Extra Time (tequila, alcoholic liqueur, and amaretto), Sliding Tackle (vodka, dark rum, coffee liqueur, and cream liqueur from South Africa). All of these are priced at Rs 375. In addition to special cocktails, we are also giving 1+1 on select spirits. Those coming in groups can enjoy the group deals offering unlimited beer at Rs 699 each and unlimited IMFLS at Rs 799 (group of four people),” says  Menezes.

At Fishbowl, a restaurant at Hyatt Pune, Kalyani Nagar, you will find the crowd cheering for their teams while enjoying drinks and munching on some scrumptious meal. The bar has a FIFA themed decor for football fanatics. 

Sethuraman Sundaram, food and beverage manager, Hyatt Pune, who believes that FIFA is a fantastic and exciting time when people from various countries and walks of life come together and bond, says that Fishbowl has been converted into a mini playing field with live screenings of matches since the start of FIFA World Cup. “The team at Fishbowl is wearing jerseys of the teams they support. To raise the spirits of guests further, we have come up with exclusive beverage offers with unlimited beer during matches at only Rs 1300 +taxes and unlimited Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) at Rs 1500 + taxes,” says Sundaram.

If you want some more action, get on the mini football pitch outside Fishbowl and kick the ball. “We also maintain an active scoreboard, helping people to stay updated with FIFA 2018,” says Sundaram.

Bhaskar Borkute, owner Grillicious, says that the excitement for the World Cup can be felt across the globe and Pune too is having its own share of fun. “We at Grillicious, the BBQ restaurant, want to make it even more special for our patrons at both Kharadi and Baner outlets with amazing match time offers. All imported whiskeys are being served at Rs 150 and cocktails at Rs 99 only. Apart from live screenings and a DJ playing some foot-thumping music that complements the whole environment, we have made it an ideal place for friends to cheer their teams,” says Borkute.

If you head to the bar wearing the jersey of your favourite team or carry their flag, you’ll get a special 15 per cent  discount on food as well.

At 1 BHK, Baner, the mood is totally game-oriented. “Football is a sport that people enjoy watching the world over and we are trying to create the same feeling. We have put up flags of different countries to give that feel, and our food and drinks offers are truly irresistible,” says Heramb Shelke, owner, 1 BHK, Superbar. 

The bar has been promoting beer during this FIFA season. Shelke says, “Beer is what everyone loves to drink and still keeps you calm. Beer has the strength to bind everyone together like couples, friends, colleagues. We are also cheering young couples and friends to participate in different contests we are running at 1 BHK so that the mood is more energised and the winners can also avail good discounts here. Our DJs do special announcements when goals are scored and keep changing the music according to the mood of crowd.” 

The beer bucket offer at 1 BHK Superbar includes: predict a goal 5 minutes before it is scored and get a complimentary Nazza (a combination of pizza and naan) or 1 beer; predict the winner before halftime starts and get 1 beer + 1 Nazza complimentary; predict the scoreline before the match starts and get 1 Sunday Drunch (basic package) complimentary — valid on any Sunday before FIFA ends; and predict the tournament winner while dining at 1 BHK, and get a complimentary dinner for two after the tournament ends.
