Since filmmaker Rohit Shetty announced his next —Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar in December, everyone kept guessing about who the leading lady would be. For the past few weeks, social media was buzzing with news about Katrina Kaif signing the film. On Monday morning, the filmmaker confirmed the news on his social media page that the Ek Tha Tiger actress is indeed playing the leading lady in his next film, the shooting of which begins in June.
Rohit shared a group picture of Akshay, Katrina, Karan Johar and himself on his Facebook page and Instagram handle. He captioned the picture saying, “Welcome to our COP UNIVERSE Katrina Kaif ..OUR SOORYAVANSHI GIRL.”
Not just Rohit, Akshay, Katrina and Karan shared the announcement on their Instagram handles. While the film is Katrina’s first collaboration with the Golmaal filmmaker, Akshay and Katrina were paired together in seven films including Singh Is King, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye, Namastey London, Tees Maar Khan, Welcome, De Dana Dan and Blue.
Rohit announced the cop drama when Akshay had appeared at the end of his hit film Simmba as a cop named Sooryavanshi. The film is being bankrolled by Dharma Productions, Shetty’s Rohit Shetty Picturez, Akshay’s Cape of Good Films, and Reliance Entertainment.
