Making his debut with Jia aur Jia, actor Arslan Goni talks about working with Richa Chadha and Kalki Koechlin, and his relationship with brother and TV actor Aly

Even though Howard Rosemeyer's Jia aur Jia stars Richa Chadha and Kalki Koechlin in the title role, the film's leading man Arslan Goni claims that his character is equally strong. “I had read the script before signing the film and I knew I am the hero of the film. I star opposite both the characters. Even though it's not the title role, it's a great opportunity for me,” says the actor. He adds that more than the importance of his role in the film, he was worried about facing Richa and Kalki on the sets.

The actor says that he plays the role of a well to do sculptor. “My character is half Swedish and half Indian. He is calm, intelligent and smart. His life completely changes after he meets the characters played by Richa and Kalki, both of whom have the same name – Jia. They have different perceptions about life and don't like to carry any baggage. Mine is a different kind of character. It's always fun playing something you are not,” he says.

Jia aur Jia is a story about two strangers (Richa and Kalki), who go on a life-changing road trip. “The film shows how different people have different problems and their owns ways of dealing with it,” says Goni.

Ask him about his co-stars and he shares, “It was great working with them because they are fantastic actors. They have different style of acting. They were nice to me even though I was nervous to face them. Since day one, I had my scenes with them.”

Not many know that Arslan is the elder brother of  the Yeh Hai Mohabbatein fame actor Aly Goni. Is atmosphere at home filmy? “We live together in Mumbai and behave just like two brothers would. We are normal people and have normal conversations about everything at home. We consult each other when offered a project,” says the actor who belongs to Kashmir.

It is rare to have siblings working in the entertainment industry who don't belong to a clan or a Bollywood family. But Arslan says that it happened by chance that both of them wanted to get into the entertainment industry. “Since the beginning, Aly wanted to get into television and I into films. It took me time to get into Bollywood. Having said that, today, all the mediums are almost the same,” says the actor who has couple of other projects in the pipeline including one with Sanjay Dutt's niece Nazia Hussain.
