Subodh Bhave and Mukta Barve —acclaimed actors of the Marathi film industry — in ace designer Vikram Phadnis’s debut directorial, Hrudayantar, are making news. Special appearances by Hrithik Roshan, Shiamak Davar and Maniesh Paul have added to the buzz. The film releasing on July 7 has an emotional core — a father’s anguish at not being able to spend enough time with his family.
Subodh who is playing Shekhar Joshi in the movie says, “No matter how hard he tries, Shekhar can’t spend quality time with his family. This has strained his relationship with his wife, played by Mukta. They have two daughters too, but can’t express his feelings.”
The talented actor adds, “You will find characters like Shekhar in every household — a father who doesn’t have time for his children.”
When asked whether it was the character or the chance to work with the ace fashion designer, that made him take up Hrudayantar, Subodh says, “It was the passion of the director that makes you want to be a part of a certain film. I heard the narration after I had signed the film. In our first meeting, the way Vikram created the scene and the way he has shaped the characters, his conviction and his sincerity, convinced me to be a part of the film.”
He further says, “To give you an example, an average student puts in extra efforts while studying for his exams, I could see Vikram doing that because he is a first-time director. He hasn’t assisted anyone before either. The fate of a film is based on the director. Even if it’s an okay script, he can turn it around, but if you give a good script to a poor director, he can ruin it completely. Vikram had planned meticulously and all we had to do was go on the sets and enact scenes.”
Mukta, who plays the role of Samaira Joshi, says, “I play the role of a mother who has given up on her career to focus on her children. She wants to keep her family together and her home is her priority. I am not that kind of person in real life. At my home, my parents consider me as their top priority.”
The actress, who is playing the role of a mother for the first time, says, “I thought I will be able to pull it off because I am of that age (of becoming a mother). But there’s a difference between being a mother and acting like one. I hope I have managed to pull it off.”
The film also stars Trushnika Shinde, Nishtha Vaidya, Meena Naik, Sonali Khare, Ameet Khedekar and others.
