I just crafted it at one go,” he says adding that the process of making the idol was a spiritual one. “It’s beyond belief and I can’t explain it. I feel so enlightened since I took the journey of crafting the idol. I am really happy about the process because it’s so enriching. After creating the idol, it’s changed my whole perspective about life. I can now see people beyond their personalities. It’s a beautiful feeling

Actor Rithvik Dhanjani is sculpting his very own Ganpati this year and he says that the move was made after he failed to get the right idol. “I have been watching my friend, actor Raqesh Vashisth, make Ganesh idols for last 15 years, but I used to prefer buying an eco-friendly Ganpati idol. When I go to buy one, I see the eyes. The eyes of the deity need to call out to me, that’s how I decide which idol to buy. This year, I couldn’t find the right idol. That’s when Raqesh was like, ‘why don’t you make your own idol?’” says the actor.

The Pavitra Rishta star says that his failure to find an idol with the eyes he was looking for motivated him to craft his own idol. “I just exactly followed the way Raqesh made his idol and it took me seven days to complete it.” He is making the idol with silt and clay.

Rithvik says that there were no trials or practise before making the idol. “I just crafted it at one go,” he says adding that the process of making the idol was a spiritual one. “It’s beyond belief and I can’t explain it. I feel so enlightened since I took the journey of crafting the idol. I am really happy about the process because it’s so enriching. After creating the idol, it’s changed my whole perspective about life. I can now see people beyond their personalities. It’s a beautiful feeling,” he adds.

Rithvik, who has been getting Ganesha home for the last 17 years, says that he is connected to the deity. “Though I am not a religious person, I am connected to Lord Ganesha. It’s a kind of connection I cannot explain. I feel a sense of calm and peace when he comes home. Its such a beautiful feeling,” he says, adding that he is more of a spiritually inclined person.

The actor says that henceforth he will encourage his family and friends to make Ganesha idols at home. “Now that I have done it myself, I am going to motivate others. There are no problems involved in making an idol,” says the actor who has hosted shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, India's Best Dramebaaz, and So You Think You Can Dance among others.

Rithvik is currently one of the contestants of Colors’ Khatron Ke Khiladi season 8. The reality show also stars Hina Khan, Ravi Dubey, Karan Wahi, Geeta Phogat, Nia Sharma and others. The actor calls the experience of being on the show astonishingly beautiful. “It’s one of the most memorable journeys with my friends. The stunts have made me appreciate life a little better,” says the actor who will feature next on Sony TV’s Super Dancer.
