Friends to lovers

Friends to lovers

The poor performance of Ranchi Diaries at the box-office isn’t stopping Himansh Kolhi from promoting his next project Dil Jo Na Keh Saka. During his recent visit to Sakal Times office along with his co-star Priya Banerjee, the actor said, “I tried something new and out-of-the-box with Ranchi Diaries. When we try something new, there are chances of you succeeding and failing too. Also, I got a chance to work with veterans like Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik and Jimmy Shergill and many others. It was a learning experience for me. Now I know better of what I should try in the future.”

As we turn the conversation towards Dil Jo Na Keh Saka, Priya, known for her role in Jaazbaa, says that it’s a romantic story about about two friends. “Their families are also friends. How their friendship turns into love and the fact that it is not a typical love story is beautiful. It shows the reality of today’s youngsters. We are so busy with our lives that we do not have the time to consider what the other person is thinking about us,” she says. Himansh adds, “Both our characters are from middle-class families. Jai specially has to choose between either helping his family financially or concentrate on his love. He has to take care of his responsibilities. That’s why Dil Jo Na Keh Saka.”

The actor says, “When I was being narrated the script, I connected with it immediately because there many instances in the story that I could relate to. I was attracted to few girls but I couldn’t tell them because I was scared that they might not talk to me again.”

Priya says that she too connected with the fact that just like her Sia could not survive without her family. “I cannot survive without my family. They are the most important people in my life,” she adds.

Directed by Naresh Lalwani, the film releases on November 17.

Priya says that it was exciting for her to play the character because she enjoyed flaunting Indian wear in the film. “Because I am born and bought up in Canada, I never got to wear Indian costumes, which was kind of new for me.”

Do they believe that friends make best lovers? “You are lucky if your best friend is your lover. It’s easy to find love but it’s difficult to find a friend in your lover,” says Priya, to which Himansh adds, “The beginning of every love story happens with friendship and if friendship goes deeper, it turns into love.”

Himansh slowly and steadily is establishing himself as a romantic hero with his choice of films. The actor says that he connects with romantic films. “That’s not the reason why I am doing romantic films but it’s the kind of films that I am being offered. Having said that, I have enjoyed Rajesh Khanna ji’s films and I love those melodramatic love stories,” he says.

Expressing his disappointment with love disappearing from our lives, he says, “We are becoming so busy with achieving our dreams and competition that we have no time for love. Love is getting lost somewhere. Earlier, we used to meet our relatives and families and spend time with them but today we connect with them over social media. We think we are connected to our family but we are not. We do not have time to catch up. That’s why I always make it a point to meet my relatives and cousins whenever I am in Delhi. That way, I am quite connected to my roots.”
