Dipika Kakar has designs on her mind

Dipika Kakar is one of the few actresses on television who is known for her style sense. So it did not come as a surprise when she announced the launch of her fashion line. The actress has partnered with her would be sister-in-law Saba (Shoaib Ibrahim’s sister) and has named the label after her mother-in-law — Sitaara. “It will be more about one piece, palazzos and long kurtas. My focus is on designing Indian wear with a hint of Western,” she says and adds, “I am mostly going to use cotton fabrics. There would be a few pieces which will be in mixed material but most of them would be cotton.”

Dipika says her idea of fashion is being comfortable in whatever you wear. “If you are not comfortable in your outfit, you will not be able to carry it off well and will therefore not look stylish. That’s why the tagline of our fashion line is ‘Your world of style with comfort’.”

Dipika says that she has designed the clothes keeping all body types in mind. “Women with any body type can wear my clothes. The focus was on designing stuff which will not only look comfortable but confident too. My outfits are mostly A-line, loose fitted, so they will make women look stylish in long cotton one pieces too.”

The Sasural Simar Ka actress says that it was her sister-in-law who pushed the idea. “In personal life, I rarely wear ready made clothes. I pick up fabrics and design my own clothes. Saba said that people usually like what I wear, they say that my outfits are unique. She suggested that we start something on a small scale,” says the actor.

Offering tips, she says, “I always believe in wearing comfortable stuff but also keeping every occasion in mind. If I have a nice silk jacket and I am going for a morning party, I will wear it with denim and ganji inside but if it’s an evening party, I will match it with silk anarkali or long skirt.”

She says that when it comes to getting ready for a show, she rarely interferes with the stylist’s work. “It’s a bit of me, not much. I go with what the creative team wants because they have a certain look in mind and we are all there to make the show look good.”

Coming back to her designs, Dipika says that the designs will be available on her Instagram and Facebook page (Sitaaras). “People can come and buy whatever they like. Because of social media, we can reach a large number of people. When you have a physical store, you are restricted to a certain area but that’s not the case with social media.”

The actor says that they have worked on the project for two months. “We had to start from scratch. We did a study of the wholesale market, purchased fabrics, planned, designed and later put everything together.”

Her Insta and FB page have a few catalogues and Dipika says that the designs can be customised.
