Looking for fancy Christmas decorations? Here are a few places in the city you could head to

With schools closing for holidays, vacationers heading for party destinations and people looking forward to celebrating Christmas and New Year’s eve, you can feel the magic of the season. If you are in the mood to party and get some Christmas decorations at home, here are a few places in town that you can visit.

The Camp area in Pune has been a favourite place to shop for Christmas trees and ornaments. Among the well-known stores, D Furtado and Sons, which has been in festive decoration since 1951, has a variety of artificial trees in a number of sizes. They have trees in the usual shades of green as well as those with hints of white to resemble snow and some even with tiny fairy lights. Customers can choose from a huge collection of bells, wreaths, stars, angels, baubles, and nativity figurines.

Bartholomew Furtado, owner, says, “Christmas celebrations have changed a lot in the past few years, we have more and more customers belonging to various communities buying the decorations.” He says that people like the concept of decorating the Christmas tree which helps them to spend a lot of quality time together with family or friends.

Chennai-based Raave’s has been setting up exhibitions selling Christmas decorations for the past eight years in Camp, Pune. It houses all the essential Christmas decorations, right from Christmas trees, to colourful baubles, Italian cribs and LED snowman as well.

They have a range of products that suits everyone’s pocket and leaves every customer delighted with their shopping bags. Salvius, who is heading the exhibition this year, says, “People are very warm here in Pune and they enjoy Christmas shopping.” He mentions that they have over a thousand varieties of decorations and 2 to 50 ft tall Christmas trees.

What is Christmas with a real Santa? J P DeMello in Camp comes to your rescue when you have to surprise children with Santa Claus. Apart from a wide variety of costumes, they have a lot of felt decorations, wall décor as well as Christmas decorations including optical Christmas trees of various sizes.

Ivo DeMello, owner,  says, “Many Christian families already have a stock of Christmas decorations at home, so we have a lot of families of other communities coming in with their children to buy the decorations.”

One of the shoppers, Vrishali Shinde, says, “As a child, I remember coming to Camp to see the decorations but there would be very few options. But now there are plenty  of options.

All you have to do is spend some extra time to select what exactly you are looking for. Earlier, we used a lot of colourful paper streamers and paper cutouts but now they have been replaced by fancy streamers and LED decorations and some really huge and natural-looking trees.”

“With every passing year I have seen more and more innovative and eye-catching Christmas decorations,” says Simi Mathews, another shopper. She mentions that every year during Christmas she has to come up with a budget with a heavy heart so that she does not overindulge herself in the decorations.

She believes that with new products making their way into the market there is no way that they can be left out from the Christmas decorations at home. What she also loves about shopping at Camp is the festive feel in the air.
You too can join in and be a part of the merriment.
