Men who are bored of sporting regular denims or formals can choose khaki for a makeover
Men who feel their daily getup is getting a bit stale can try khaki this season. Mostly because this utilitarian brownish textile is relaxing and uncomplicated. If you are wondering how to sport this versatile fabric, Sandeep Khapra, design head, mens wear, Max Fashion, and Amitabh Suri, chief operating officer, Indian Terrain, have some handy tips for you.
Perfect formal wear
Khaki can be styled for different types of looks, from formals to casuals. To achieve a formal look, Khapra suggests that you may choose a pair made with a fine, lightweight twill and trouser-like tailoring — a cut that tapers to the ankle, and possibly features details like a tab closure and cuffs. “Pair your beige colour trousers with a white crisp shirt, navy blue blazer, leather belt, leather boots, loafers, wingtips, or suede oxfords to enhance the look,” advises Khapra.
Khakis can be perfect work wear too. “For that perfect office wear ensemble, opt for the smart waistband chino — your perfect working partner. You can style the trouser with constructed shirts to craft that perfect look for clean office attire,” says Suri.
Khaki gives you the freedom to achieve the semi-casual look effortlessly. Khapra suggests that one should try wearing a button-down shirt with sleeves rolled up. “You can also try a khaki suit that is quite versatile. Unlike other suits, you can mix and match the top and bottom, and wear them as separate pieces, creating a host of other outfits. For office wear, team up with socks but for a casual outing, you can go without them and it will never be a bother,” he adds.
However, Suri feels that while when going for a semi-casual look, you can wear a leather jacket or sports coat and opt for an untucked shirt to match the casual nature of your pants.
With winter around the corner you can opt for khakis which go well with most winter wear and make you look fashionable too.
“Casual khakis pair well with sweaters, striped and solid t-shirts, polos, Henley’s shirt, and denim or chambray button-downs. For footwear, throw on some leather boots, canvas sneakers, or boat shoes. Sunglasses with a wristwatch and a nice wallet can be your accessories for the day,” says Khapra.
Suri advises that when going for a more dressed-up look, you must choose a pair of printed khakis tailored from stretch fabric with smart detailing. He adds, “Pair these with a garment-dyed shirt, brogues, horn sunglasses and a heavy vintage watch to complete the look. The outgoing and adventurous can choose an active lifestyle and ride to work, cycling chino is the best bet for you,” says Suri.
