From Bali With Love

A typical red décor with touches of bamboo and a waterfall next to the outdoor dining area, Baan Tao at Hyatt Pune, Kalyani Nagar, now sports an Indonesian look and takes you on a culinary sojourn of this South-East Asian island country.

The restaurant is famous for their authentic Pan Asian cuisines and the ongoing Indonesia Food Festival will not disappoint you.
“Indonesia-Balinese cuisine share a few similarities with the food of South India, in terms of fresh coconut and herbs,” says chef Nyoman Sudiarta who has come all the way from Grand Hyatt, Bali. He has specially curated an ala carte menu which will let you taste the best of Balinese cuisine.

Lawar Kacang Panjang, which is a chicken salad with the freshness of grated coconut, long beans along with Balinese bumbu spice and minced chicken, is flavourful. It might look dry for the Indian palate, but when you dig in, the crunchiness and freshness of the ingredients and the well-cooked meat will make you instantly go for the second bite.

If you are a vegetarian with healthy eating instincts, Gado Gado is for you. This tofu salad is served with steamed vegetables like carrots, cabbage and egg and topped with a drizzle of peanut sauce that makes it oh-so- delectable.

Satay fans must try Sate Lilit Udang (Prawn Satay), Sate Lilit Ayam (Chicken Satay) and Sate Lilit Ikan (Fish Satay). The spiced meat cooked on bamboo skewers tastes amazing and the peanut dip further elevates the Satay experience.

Seafood lovers must try the Sari Segara. This hearty bowl of soup is packed with clams, prawns and fish  prepared overnight. Coconut milk, lemon grass and lightly spiced herbs add to its flavour.

The main course at the festival offers a host of flavoursome options making it extremely difficult to choose — Balinese Vegetable Curry, Mie Goreng —  Indonesian wok-tossed noodles, Nasi Goreng, to name a few.

Ayam Bakar is a complete healthy meal with grilled chicken, raw vegetables, eggplant and steamed rice. While the glaze on the chicken makes it delicious, the spiced eggplant takes this dish up a few notches.

Fried rice topped with an egg, served with Lamb Satay and chicken may sound like a simple dish, but this Nasi Goreng is packed with some amazing flavours and freshness. Both the main course dishes are served with dips.

What’s a meal without dessert? Bubur Injin is a pudding you must try at the Indonesian Food Festival. Made with black sticky rice in combination with coconut milk is the ultimate pudding. The bitterness from the black sticky rice is neutralised with the white sticky rice that makes this a real winner.

Balinese food is full of rich flavours, textures and colours. The crunchiness from the slightly tossed vegetables and the flavours of the well-cooked meat with the most colourful herbs make them absolutely delectable. The speciality of the cuisine is that none of the herbs or spices used are in powdered form but whole or ground which makes the food irresistible.
