Singer Kanika Kapoor, who will be featured on the upcoming episode of MTV Beats’ Secret Side, wants her fans to get to know her as a person

Making her debut with Jugni Ji six years ago, Kanika Kapoor has come a long way. Whether you remember the film or not, you remember the hit songs she’s delivered — Baby Doll (Ragini MMS 2), Lovely (Happy New Year), Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan (Roy), Desi Look (Ek Paheli Leela) and more. Most of her songs make it as successful club hits, and party girls just love those cheeky-yet-demure vocals.

She has proved her versatility with tracks like Da Da Dase (Udta Punjab), Ankhiyaan (Do Lafzon Ki Kahani) and the likes. And now she wants to connect with her fans on a personal note.

Featured on an episode of MTV Beats’ Secret Side, which will air on Monday, October 1, Kanika will be showing her fans another side of her. And no, just following her on Instagram doesn’t really count as getting to know her.

“As a person, I am very basic,” she says. She continues to explain that by ‘basic’’ she means she is honest and straightforward. Though she prefers to keep her answers brief and to-the-point, she has not been coy or uncommunicative about anything — be it her struggle through her divorce or how she overcame her worst experiences for a fresh start, and how grateful she is for the success she has achieved.

While music is what makes her tick, the artist is passionate about fashion and philanthropy. “I do a lot of designing work for the label I run. It’s called Kanika Kapoor’s House of Chikankari. I add my personal touch to the outfits we create,” she says, adding, “My fashion philosophy is simple — stay classy. Wear clothes that suit you. The outfits we make are timeless.”

But what keeps her busy round the clock is the job of being a mother. “I have three kids, and I am busy bringing them up. Three, you know. So my hands are pretty full,” she says.

In spite of her crazy schedules and never-ending to-do list, she admits that she’s a social media addict, just like most of her fan base. “I think I am a social media addict. I spend a lot of time on Twitter and Instagram,” says the artist whose guilty pleasure includes Govinda movies and songs.

Success in Bollywood has financially enabled her to take care of her family and run her home, and given her a lot of fame. While fame is what struggling artists crave for, it comes with a whole list of pros and cons.
Celebrities are mobbed if they go to public spaces without security. And now when everyone has access to a camera on their cellphones, celebrities are under constant unwanted surveillance with no privacy at all. When asked if there are any cons in her list, putting on her never-complain attitude Kanika says, “There’s nothing that I miss doing. It’s just that since I work a lot, I miss spending time with my family. The time spent with them is never enough. We hang out, go for lunches and dinners, and take holidays together.”

The singer who recently released a ‘song that the entire family can enjoy’, titled Cheater Mohan, is excited about the episode to be aired. “Shooting the episode was so much fun. I said a lot of things I shouldn’t have!” she ends.
