The salsa dancers from Goa — Amit Rajput and Sakshi Kurtarkar walked away with the winner’s trophy on Colors’ reality show India Banega Manch. In the finals, the duo competed against Mumbai-based Crew 19.
Amit and Sakshi, who have been performing together for the last three years, said, “It’s such an amazing feeling. India Benega Manch is a great platform and we still can’t believe that we have won the show.”
They paired up after learning salsa from the same academy and have participated in several reality shows together. Since they already had experience of participating in reality shows, were they confident about winning this competition from the start? “We were sure since the beginning that we had chances of winning the show, but not over-confident. It’s been a difficult journey,” says Amit.
The two had emerged victorious in the Growel Mall episode of India Banega Manch. They impressed the judges and audiences alike with their perfect synchronisation and sultry dance moves. Sakshi says that it’s the connection, trust and understanding between them that makes their dance so flawless. “All this shows on stage. The finale episode has the starcast of Mubarakan, including Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Athiya Shetty, promoting their film. Sakshi, who is a huge fan of Arjun, proposed to the actor on the show and he sportingly played along. “It was such a great moment with the three of them. It’s not easy to perform in front of celebrities, but it was a dream for Sakshi because she is a huge fan of Arjun,” says Amit, to which Sakshi adds, “I was shivering out of nervousness while performing in front of Arjun but he made me comfortable. I got to chat him up too. He is very nice person. Proposing to Arjun was a magical moment for me.”
Before signing off, the twosome said that they have only one goal — to showcase their Latin dance skills to represent India at an international level competition. “It will be a huge achievement for us,” added Sakshi.
