For all chicken lovers!

For all chicken lovers!

For meat lovers, chicken is one of the most popular options. Indians have endless options to choose from — Chicken Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken and so on —  each dish is delectable. So with such a huge fan following, chicken needs a day dedicated to it. Interestingly, every year, the second Thursday of October is celebrated as World Chicken Day and October 12 was Chicken Day this year. On this occasion, Swiggy, the online food delivery platform, tells us which Indian city loves chicken the most and other interesting facts as well.

Chicken dishes India loves to order most online (on Swiggy): Chicken Biryani, Chicken Fried Rice, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken 65 and Butter Chicken. India loves Chicken Biryani so much so that it is ordered across all meals — breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The cities that order chicken dishes the most online are Hyderabad followed by Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR.

A never-ending love affair: Indians indulge in chicken even during breakfast and snack times!

Breakfast: Indians consume chicken for their daily dose of protein, and top chicken dishes for breakfast include: Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Burger, Chicken Biryani.
Lunch: Chicken Biryani, Chicken Fried Rice, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Lollipop, Chicken Sub and Chicken 65.
Snacks: In addition to having Chicken Biryani and burgers during snack time, Indians love to snack on Chicken Roll, Chicken Momo and Chicken Shawarma.
Dinner: Chicken is most ordered at dinner, with the average ordering time being 8.47 pm. Chilli Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Grilled Chicken and Chicken Roll are most preferred during dinner other than the usual chicken items like Chicken Biryani.

Healthy chicken: Most ordered healthy chicken dishes include Roasted Chicken Salad, Chicken Tikka Salad, Tandoori Chicken Sandwich (multigrain).

Top three cities that eat chicken in its healthier avatar: In Kolkata, 30 per cent of total healthy dishes ordered contain chicken, followed by Delhi NCR (19 per cent),  and Pune (18 per cent). Not surprisingly, maximum orders for chicken are placed over the weekend, with Sunday dinner seeing the highest orders.

(Chicken) Leg before wicket: On match days (cricket), chicken orders increased between the range of 16-49 per cent compared to the same days of the week when there was no match.

(The above findings are derived from Swiggy’s order analysis for the last nine months (January - September 2017).
