After presenting a remarkable line-up of movies at the festival this year, the Jio MAMI 20th Mumbai Film Festival has just taken it up a notch by announcing the opening film for the 20th edition of the festival.

Presented by RSVP, Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, written and directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, will kickstart the festival this year.  The film recently won the Grolsch People's Choice Midnight Madness Award at the acclaimed Toronto International Film Festival, an extremely prestigious win for any filmmaker.

An action comedy film about a young man born without pain receptors on a mission to rid the world of muggers, the film marks the debut of actress Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu Dassani. The movie also stars Radhika Madan, Gulshan Devaiah, and celebrated actor and director Mahesh Manjrekar.

Speaking on the success of their film, Bala said, “It's like homecoming for me. To not just be attending the Jio MAMI 20th Mumbai Film Festival, but opening it with a dream nurtured over years and brought to existence by Ronnie Screwvala's fearless and absolute backing. I am honoured and thrilled to be walking into the cinema hall with the team of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota and sharing the film for the first time on my home ground.” ST
