The organisers of Kerala Film Festival tried to get Censor exemption for the film but they had to drop the film after receiving a letter from I&B Ministry which had mentioned that Nude cannot be screened without a censor certificate. The message was passed on to me by the officials of IFFK

Filmmaker Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi film Nude is embroiled in one controversy after another. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has dropped the film from official selection for International Film Festival of India over the content of the film. The jury headed by Sujoy Ghosh, had selected the film for screening but it was dropped along with Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s Malayalam movie S Durga. The decision of the I&B Ministry even lead to Sujoy resigning from his post.

Nude now cannot make it to the 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)after the Board of Film Certification failed to certify it. In a Facebook post, Ravi said that Nude was selected for IFFK. “The organisers of Kerala Film Festival tried to get Censor exemption for the film but they had to drop the film after receiving a letter from I&B Ministry which had mentioned that Nude cannot be screened without a censor certificate. The message was passed on to me by the officials of IFFK,” he said. He added that they had accordingly started the procedure to get the film certification on December 7.

“The film was screened for the members and expected to receive the certification on that very day. But because there was a difference of opinion between the officials on whether the film should get a U/A or A certification, we were informed that the decision will be taken by Prasoon Joshi, chairperson of the board. We were told by the Registry officer that the decision will be taken on December 8 and were therefore waiting for a positive news. But now, the film will not be screened at IFFK,” he said. Ravi thanked the organisers of IFFK for fully cooperating with the team. “They waited till the last moment and didn’t cancel the shows. We are hoping that the film will soon release,” he maintained. Nude is the story of a poor woman who works as a nude model for art students.
