Producer Yash A Patnaik, whose company Beyond Dreams is entering the digital space, says that the platform gives him a chance to explore new genres and stories. “Digital platform is an interesting space. New stories in a new way can be told here. We have been working on content for the digital platform for a while now. We are ready with five unique series for the digital medium. All these series will be launched under our new label Beyond Originals. Black Coffee is the first in the series,” he says.
Commenting on casting Harshita Gaur and Param Singh as the lead pair, Yash says, “Both Harshita and Param started their career under Beyond Dreams with Sadda Haq on Channel V. Apart from being fine actors, both of them are wonderful people. I think they have done their best with us. When Mamta (Patnaik) came up with the concept of Black Coffee, Param and Harshita were the first options we had. You will see a very different Param and Harshita in Black Coffee.”
While many may believe that web series only show bold content, Yash disagrees. “There is a sense of confusion in terms of content in digital space. Audience of digital medium is evolving every day. They have consumed a lot of international content. But that’s the urban audience. There is a huge semi-urban and rural audience, too, who are consuming data. So all kinds of content will find place on the internet. We, as a production house, believe in good content. Our edge should be in writing and not just in execution. Characters need to be unique yet from real world. We are not dependent on sex or sleaze to catch eyeballs in digital space,” he added.
Meanwhile, the producer is thrilled with his shows Ishq Mein Marjawan and the second season of Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, that are currently on air. “Both Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi and Ishq Main Marjawan are Mamta’s creations. She understands the medium well and drives the storytelling from scratch,” he says.
