‘Kalank’ to release on April 17

The release of Abhishek Varman’s Kalank is been advanced by two days. The film will now open on April 17 (Wednesday), as against the originally announced date, April 19.

“The idea is to capitalise on Mahavir Jayanti as well as Good Friday, besides Saturday and Sunday. It’s an extended weekend with two partial holidays. And going by past records, it’s a good time for a big film to release,” said a source close to the development.

The change in the release date also means that the KJo, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios production will get a nine-day unencumbered run, until April 26, when Avengers: End Game, the finale of the Marvel superhero franchise, explodes on screen, added the source.

“It’s a well-thought out business decision to advance the opening,” the source reasons.

The film star Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sonakshi Sinha. The epic drama set in the ’40s, was conceptualised by Karan with his late father Yash Johar 15 years ago. The teaser of the film will be out on March 12 but the individual posters of the characters last week.
