‘I like my dramatic look’
The actress, who was last seen in Anil Kapoor’s 24, says that she has only played positive roles on screen so far, so it was a challenge to get into this personality.
Remember Aankhen actress Ritu Shivpuri who danced with Govinda to the hit song Lal dupatte wali? Ritu is now playing one of the title roles in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3 on Star Plus. The show also stars Barun Sobti and Shivani Tomar.
Ritu says playing the character of Indrani Vashishth in the serial was like ‘getting to play Amitabh Bachchan of the show’. “The entire story revolves around the character of Indrani. She is a mix of positive and negative personality traits. It’s a completely different kind of role that I am playing,” she says while promoting the show.
The actress, who was last seen in Anil Kapoor’s 24, says that she has only played positive roles on screen so far, so it was a challenge to get into this personality. “It’s always nice to discover new spaces which show that you are capable of something more. It’s a author-backed role.
The audience will hate her but they will love to hate her,” says the actress who has been part of films like Hum Sab Chor Hai, Kaala Samrajya, Hadh Kar Di Aapne among others.
Were there any inhibitions to play a mother to grown-up kids? “Not at all. I don’t understand those actors who differentiate between small and big screen, accept roles according to the age. I hardly applied any make-up while working in 24. Such things shouldn’t be considered while selecting a film,” she says, adding that her father Om Shivpuri played a 75-year-old’s character at the age of 22.
Compliment her on her dramatic look in the serial with the chunky earrings and she says that wearing heavy jewellery is in fact the biggest challenge for her. “My ears were bleeding after wearing those earrings. We were shooting in the hottest month of the year and it was insane. But I am loving the dramatic look because I am looking like a queen,” she says.
The actress says that she has managed to develop a great rapport with her co-stars which makes her look forward to work. “I have friends who work in daily soaps and they hate coming to work. But thankfully, I have crossed the biggest hurdle. I really look forward to coming to the sets because it’s great fun,” she adds.
The show even before it’s launch made headlines after Shivani faced backlash from Sanaya Irani’s fans. “I think the audience is not being kind to Shivani and all the flak that she getting is unfair. Everyone needs a fair chance. We needed an actor who would look younger than Barun. Shivani is beautiful and talented. She is a gentle soul. It’s a different story and season, which people need to understand,” she adds.
Ritu is happy with all the positive response the show is getting. “They are loving the whole grandeur and the characters. We can only hope and pray that the show does well,” she further adds.
