Actress Aditi Gautam talks about playing Priya Dutt in Sanju, and why she did not have any inhibitions being a part of the multi-starrer

South Indian actress Aditi Gautam is making her Bollywood debut with Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju, which releases today (June 29). The actress is playing Sanjay Dutt’s sister, Priya, in the movie. Calling her experience great, Aditi says that making her debut with Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor is a ‘dream come true’. “I was excited and nervous at the same time. I couldn’t have asked for a better debut,” she says.

Aditi, who has worked on several projects down South, says that she had auditioned for the role before bagging it. “I wasn’t in town but their team called me up. I took the test and after a few days, I got a confirmation for the role,” says Aditi.

She adds that she had do a lot of homework to get into the character of the politician. “I watched her interviews to study her body language and googled about her but once I was on the set, Raju sir guided me throughout. We would do one or two scenes and then modify,” she says, adding, “It could have been a bit difficult but I had confidence in Raju sir.”

When asked if she had any kind of inhibitions playing a supporting character in her first Bollywood film, she says that she had faith in the director. “I did not have any inhibitions because I knew I will not get lost. I was playing such a strong character. Also, I’ve been a part of ensemble cast in films down South,” she quips adding that playing intense scenes in Sanju was memorable for her.

Talking about Ranbir, she says that he is not only focused and hard working but is in complete control of himself and the script. “He wasn’t casual on the set. He believes that, ‘no matter what you are doing, do your best and do your job’. So it was fun working with him. He helps others become better,” she says. The film also stars Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza and others.

Like everyone else, Aditi says that her perception about Sanjay Dutt  changed after working in the film. “I am sure that people’s perception about him will also change after watching the film. He is a human after all who had his share of right and wrong, ups and downs. We have grown up watching him but we haven’t seen this part of his life. You can’t help but wonder how can someone go through so much in life!” says the actress who will start shooting for her next Telugu film in July.
