Says Gulzar, “I have written several songs and books for Karadi Tales and Shilpa Ranade (director of GGBB) is the best illustrator and animator I know of, in our country. The best thing she has done with the film is that she has used her own interpretation and turned it into a beautiful peace film. Classic stories have to be carried on and passed on to the next generation. I hope and wish the film reaches far and wide. GGBB is not only for children, adults can enjoy it as much.”

When Gulzar says something, people believe his words since he is respected a lot in the industry. Hence the makers of animation film GGBB: Goopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya, were ecstatic to hear him praise the film after watching it.

GGBB is inspired by Satyajit Ray’s Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne which released exactly 50 years ago and which in turn was based on a short story by Ray’s grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury written over hundred years ago. Shilpa was illustrating the Hindi translation of  this story by Gulzar when she got inspired to make it into an animation film. Produced by the Children’s Film Society, India in association with Karadi Tales, GGBB releases on March 1.
