‘Canvas’sing for the citylights

The members of USP discover the essence of a place by capturing the history, geography, customs and lifestyles of the communities. The members meet every Sunday to sketch various areas or structures of Pune

The Urban Sketchers Pune (USP) is holding its second exhibition from Thursday to Sunday at Darpan Art Gallery. Sixty artists are displaying about 180 sketches, in a variety of mediums, done in and around Pune, like College of Engineering Pune’s campus, Chaturshringi Temple, Fergusson College, Camp street, as well as other parts of the country.

The members of USP discover the essence of a place by capturing the history, geography, customs and lifestyles of the communities. The members meet every Sunday to sketch various areas or structures of Pune. These sketches are in a way documentation of the place at that moment in time. At the end of every meet, the members display their sketches so that they all can see the variety of styles, mediums and tools used, different angles and compositions.

Founded by Sanjeev Joshi, Anand Ukidve and Sandeep Khatpe, the group has about 250 regular members, with over 5000 members on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/USKPune. They are active on Instagram too as @urbansketcherspune.
