‘I’m a complete adventure freak’

The ninth season of Khatron Ke Khiladi got over early this year. The contestants of the 10th season took off to Bulgaria on July 31 for a 40-day schedule. We asked Amruta Khanvilkar, who is participating in the reality show, if there’s anything in particular that she is scared of and the actress replied, “I am petrified of enclosed structures and spaces. I am not really scared of animals or insects. My friends start screaming when they see a lizard but I am okay. Having said that, if there are hundreds of insects, I don’t know how I will react. Also, I am a very active person and I can’t sit in one place for a long time. That’s why I can’t do meditation (laughs).”

The Raazi actress said that she is very instinctive and her first instinct when the show was offered to her was, “Yes, I want to do the show.” She added,“Everything else, including my fears, took a back seat.”

Apart from Amruta, Karan Patel, Adaa Khan, Karishma Tanna, Tejasswi Prakash, Shivin Narang, Balraj Sayal and radio jockey Malishka Mendonsa, Dharmesh Yelande, Rani Chatterjee are confirmed participants on the show.

Amruta calls herself a complete adventure freak. “I have done scuba driving without even knowing swimming. I just wanted to do scuba driving. I was shooting for something in Maldives and they give me an hour-and-half training. The diver told me, ‘You are a natural water baby’. It’s just that I was so curious to know what happens under the water that my fears vanished. My focus was only on the fishes,” she said.

For her husband Himanshu Malhotra’s birthday, the couple travelled to Kamshet for paragliding. “Himanshu was like, ‘Why can’t you suggest a nice, romantic dinner?’ but that’s what I like,” she said.

The next on her list is bungee jumping. One of the primary reasons she took up the show, said Amruta, is because she and her mother just love adventure. “We have been watching the show every season. More than me, my mother wanted me to do the show, so I am also doing it for her,” she said, adding, “I think the adventure keeda comes from her (laughs). I like that little uncertainty.”

Khatron Ke Khiladi is not just about adventures but also physical fitness. The actress said that she has been working on her fitness regime for two months. “As part of my training, I have done everything — weight training, hand standing, suspension training, parkour, under water swimming and holding breath under water. As far as the physical aspect is concerned, I am at my fittest right now,” said the actress who has worked in several Marathi films.

Amruta is also looking forward to working with filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is the host of the show. “He motivates people so well. Also, he is one of those hosts who aborts a stunt if he sees that the person is not able to do it, which is a sign of a great host.”

She also gushed about her co-participants on the show. “KP (Karan Patel is a dear friend) and so is Karishma. Malishka has also become a good friend,” she said before signing off.
